Designing for Dignity: A Fertility Clinic Transformation

In 2026 Merriment was awarded First Place for Commercial–Healthcare Design at the ASID MN Design Awards for a transformative redesign for a fertility clinic—turning the lobby, consultation rooms, recovery space, and provider offices into a serene, emotionally supportive environment that embodies hope, healing, and dignity.

THE CHALLENGE
A tight three-week construction time frame. Strict clinical constraints including VOC-free materials and air scrubbers to protect transferred embryos. An immovable soffit in the rounded lobby. The goal: balance medical precision with emotional warmth.

THE APPROACH
Layered textures, varied seating, and a centered reception desk brought clarity and calm to the lobby. A refreshed color palette infuses the space with gentle optimism and joy. Every detail—from ADA-accessible seating to seamless flooring and intuitive signage—was chosen with empathy and precision.

THE HEART OF THE PROJECT
Thoughtful sourcing included artwork from independent artists with personal fertility journeys, adding authenticity and connection to a space where hope matters deeply.
