The refined look of this living room began with the homeowner’s wish to keep their E.J. Victor sofa while infusing some modern elements into the room. Treasuring the decadence of this Carol Bolton influenced sofa, complete with traditional cranberry colored floral, deep purple velvet bolsters and fringe edged sofa cushions, the modern infusion addition needed to take on some high design elements to keep the room at its discerning best.
Upholstering the existing wing chairs in a zebra stripe with hand-rubbed brass nail heads was the first step. Adding in a luxuriously long-piled cream shag and two gilded lamps, the room was swept onward from a centuries-old style. Over-sized, colored glass vessels and a metal barbed sculpture were added to fill in the very large niches flanking the fireplace, without overcrowding the unique volumes of space. A painting rich in the hues of the room is the focal point over the fireplace, melding the old with the new through color.
